To honor their outstanding achievements, inspire future generations, and promote academic and artistic excellence, the foundation established the Kyung-Ahm Prize.


Each year, laureates in the fields of humanities and social sciences, natural sciences, life sciences, and engineering receive a monetary award. What makes this prize particularly meaningful is that it is funded entirely through the endowment of Mr. Geum-jo Song, the foundation’s chairperson, who built his fortune over a lifetime of unwavering diligence and frugality.

Humanities and Social Science

This prize is awarded to a scholar who has expanded the boundaries of scientific knowledge by revealing the essence of natural phenomena through innovative theories or experimental achievements. It recognizes researchers whose work has made significant contributions to advancing the quality of human life and strengthening the foundation of science and technology.

Life Sciences

Life Sciences is the study of the nature and principles of life, encompassing the structure and function of living organisms, genetics, development, evolution, and ecology. It provides essential knowledge directly linked to the health and survival of humans and other living beings. Closely connected to fields such as medicine, biotechnology, and environmental conservation, this category honors scholars who have advanced our understanding of life’s mysteries and made significant contributions to human well-being.

Engineering

Engineering is an applied science that focuses on designing and developing technologies and systems useful in everyday life. It encompasses a wide range of disciplines, including mechanical, electrical and electronic, chemical, materials, civil, environmental, and computer engineering, and plays a pivotal role in driving industrial and societal progress. This category recognizes researchers who, through creative ideas and outstanding technological expertise, have developed new processes, devices, or systems—or significantly improved existing ones—making meaningful contributions to both the nation and the global community.
